Contracts to be awarded today for new Canfield library

YOUNGSTOWN — The board of trustees of the Public Library of Youngstown and Mahoning County is expected to award construction contracts for the new $5 million Canfield branch when it meets at 4 p.m. today at main library, 305 Wick Ave.

The 5,104-square-foot, 1969 vintage Canfield branch will be demolished and replaced with the new 18,135-square-foot building on the same site at 43 W. Main St.

A temporary library branch will operate in rent-free quarters at the Mill Creek MetroParks Farm, 7574 Columbiana-Canfield Road, during the 12 to 18 months of demolition and construction.
