Career criminal Martin guilty, could face death

WARREN

The jury in the David Martin murder trial deliberated four hours this afternoon before returning guilty verdicts on aggravated murder and specifications that could lead to the death penalty.

It was not a surprise -- one of his own attorneys admitted during closing arguments earlier Thursday that Martin was guilty.

Martin, 29, of Cleveland was called a career criminal in an earlier proceeding in federal court, where he got nearly 22 years in prison on a weapons offense.

Martin's conviction means the same jury will convene Wednesday morning in the courtroom of Judge Andrew Logan to decide whether Martin should receive the death penalty.

His attorneys will present expert witnesses to talk about his childhood and other matters.
