Juror replaced

WARREN

One of the 12 jurors in the David Martin murder trial was replaced by one of the four alternates Tuesday after she reported being contacted Monday evening by “an outside source.”

Judge Andrew Logan and attorneys for Martin and the Trumbull County Prosecutor’s office met in the judge’s chambers with the juror before testimony began Tuesday afternoon. The woman said someone contacted her “relative to the issues in this case,” according to a news release from the judge’s office. It did not identify the source but said a TV report that Martin contacted the juror is “patently false.”

Still, Martin, 29, of Cleveland, who is being housed in the Mahoning County jail, is now prohibited from making phone calls to anyone but his attorneys. Jail personnel will keep track of his calls.

Deputy at fault in traffic accident

CANFIELD

A Mahoning County deputy sheriff was determined to be at fault for an accident that occurred Aug. 26 at U.S. Route 224 and Fairground Boulevard.

Sgt. John Boggs was traveling southbound from state Route 11 to Route 224. The woman in an eastbound vehicle was stopped at a red light. When the light turned green, the woman proceeded through the intersection and was struck by Boggs’ vehicle.

Ohio State Highway Patrol reported Boggs had his vehicle’s light activated, but there is no evidence his siren was activated at the time. The patrol reported the woman’s eastbound vehicle was unable to see Boggs’ vehicle, so the patrol concluded he caused the accident.

The Mahoning County Prosecutor’s Office is deciding whether it will cite the sergeant for the crash.
