Horizon Leauge honors Penguins’ Podolsky

Indianapolis

Youngstown State senior goalkeeper Jackie Podolsky (Canfield) has been named the Horizon League Women’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week, the league announced on Monday. This is the third career weekly award for Podolsky and the first this season. Podolsky won the award on Oct. 1 and Oct. 22 in 2012.

Last week, Podolsky helped the Penguins to a 1-0-1 record with a 5-0 win over Malone on Sept. 5 and a 1-1 tie against Big Ten member Purdue. For the week, Podolsky collected 10 saves and a 0.58 goals-against average in 155 minutes in the net. All 10 of her saves came in the 1-1 double-overtime tie against the Boilermakers. Her biggest save of the match came in 62nd minute when she blocked a potential game-winning penalty kick by Purdue’s Maddy Williams.

YSU’s Watson cited for volleyball effort

INDIANAPOLIS

Youngstown State senior middle blocker Shannon Watson has been named the Horizon League’s Defensive Player of the Week for matches played between Sept. 1-7, the league announced on Monday. Watson, a native of Bolivar, averaged 1.31 blocks per set as Youngstown State won three of its four matches at the Duquesne/Robert Morris Invitational.
