Ohio's AG won't release video of police shooting at Walmart

BEAVERCREEK, Ohio (AP) — Ohio’s attorney general says he won’t publicly release surveillance video of a man fatally shot by police at a Dayton-area Walmart because it could compromise the investigation.

Attorney General Mike DeWine has rejected requests by John Crawford III’s family and supporters to release video of his killing by police at a Walmart in the Dayton suburb of Beavercreek. Police say the 22-year-old man was carrying a pellet rifle he had picked up form a shelf and refused orders to drop it.

Crawford’s family and supporters have turned to social media and online petitions to continue the call for the release of the video.

DeWine says releasing the tape now would be “playing with dynamite” and could taint a potential jury pool, according to the Dayton Daily News.
