Mahoning deputy determined to have caused Aug. 26 accident in Canfield

CANFIELD — A Mahoning County deputy sheriff was determined to be at fault for an accident that occurred Aug. 26 at U.S. Route 224 and Fairground Boulevard.

Sgt. John Boggs was traveling southbound from state Route 11 to Route 224. The woman in an eastbound vehicle was stopped at a red light. When the light turned green, the woman proceeded through the intersection and was struck by Boggs’ vehicle.

Ohio State Highway Patrol reported Boggs had his vehicle’s light activated, but there is no evidence his siren was activated at the time. The patrol reported the woman’s eastbound vehicle was unable to see Boggs’ vehicle, so the patrol concluded he caused the accident.

The Mahoning County Prosecutor’s Office is deciding whether it will cite the sergeant for the crash.
