Staff report

ROOTSTOWN

Northeast Ohio Medical University recently celebrated the induction of its 11th class of physicians and student physicians into the NEOMED Chapter of the Gold Humanism Honor Society.

The Class of 2015 inductees were nominated by faculty, staff and fellow students for continually exemplifying humanism in medicine, especially those tenets embraced by the society: sensitivity and respect for others, full acceptance of all cultural and ethnic backgrounds, compassion and empathetic treatment of all people, recognition of other’s needs and autonomy, a willingness to put patient needs ahead of one’s own, a sense of optimism about the human condition, and a moral obligation to serve the community.

Area students inducted:

Robert Carlisle, fourth-year student in the College of Medicine from Garretsville.

Jessica Persson, fourth-year student in the College of Medicine from Girard.

Ryan Shields, fourth-year student in the College of Medicine from Poland.

The NEOMED Chapter of the Gold Humanism Honor Society is supported by the Office of Student Affairs and The Arnold P. Gold Foundation, which was established to advance humanism in medicine, perpetuating the tradition of the caring doctor.

GHHS honors senior College of Medicine students, faculty, residents and other health-care professionals who are exemplars recognized for “demonstrated excellence in the clinical care, leadership, compassion and dedication to service.”
