The 12th annual Tribute to Black Excellence will take place Sept. 26 at the Mahoning Country Club, 710 E. Liberty St.

A social hour will begin at 6 p.m., and dinner will be served at 7. The donation is $40 per person ($20 tax deductible). Semiformal dress is requested.

A cash bar, basket auction (cash only) and music by DJ Sly Rock will enhance the evening.

Proceeds will benefit the Mary McLeod Bethune Scholarship fund as well as voter education and registration, health and financial training and mentoring of young people.

The fund has awarded more than $300,000 to students in the Mahoning Valley and New Castle areas.

Delta Sigma Theta’s Tribute to Black Excellence honors indivuduals and/or organizations that have attained significant milestones or made noteworthy contributions to the Valley and neighboring communities.

The 2014 honorees are Jennifer Roller, Sarah Brown Clark, Judge Robert Douglas, Atty. Percy Squire, Mary Halfacre (accepting for Frankie Halfacre) and Atty. Adrian Roe.

Delta members dedicate themselves to the Five Point Programmatic Thrust, developed by the founders, involving economic development, educational development, international awareness, physical/mental health and political awareness. For 101 years, members have been committed to public service.

Elected officers for the coming year are Dr. Michelle McCollin, president; Quiana Faison, first vice president; Marcia Haire-Ellis, second vice president; Gwen Montgomery, recording secretary; Octavia Payne, corresponding secretary; Dr. Bonique Morton, treasurer; Chantelle Hallman, financial secretary; Susan Moorer, parliamentarian; and Dr. Gloria Tribble, chaplain.

Committee chairs are Michele Dotson and Dr. Sherri Lovelace Cameron. Committee members are Nancy Murray, Charlotte Grant, Renee Carnathan, Gail Waters, Crystal Davis, Susan Moorer, Cynthia Moore, Payne and Nikki Davis.
