Munnell Run Farm to sponsor craft event
Staff report
Mercer, Pa.
Munnell Run Farm, in conjunction with artisan Cyndi Burk, will host a program from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday that teaches participants to make a wagon-wheel rug.
Burk is the owner of “The Nut House” and is an artisan who creates rugs, center pieces and finds new uses for old, unwanted materials.
In the pioneer era, women traveling west would take wagon wheels as a frame and make rugs within them using scrap material. Participants in the workshop will use circular frames and replicate the style of rugs made in that era.
Participants must bring 4 yards of fabric, and it suggested that it be 2 yards of one style or pattern and 2 yards of another. Any fabric is appropriate, but fleece or wool are discouraged, as they tend to rip down easily. The ripping down of fabric can wait until participants attend the class. Guests are urged to take a crochet or J hook and scissors.
Cost is $25, and participants must preregister and pay by Wednesday by calling 724-662-2242. Make checks payable to Munnell Run Farm Foundation, 24 Avalon Court, Suite 300, Mercer, PA 16137.
