POLICE CALLS
A summary of recent criminal activity in Girard, Hubbard and Liberty:
GIRARD
Aug. 31
Breaking and entering: Someone entered a vacant home in the 400 block of Joan Avenue through a rear sliding-glass door before removing a water tank and $1,500 worth of copper plumbing.
Drugs: Police responded to a person asleep in a vehicle near U.S. Route 422 before charging 27-year-old Randy T. Weibel Jr. with possession of drug-abuse instruments. Weibel, of North Ward Avenue, Girard, had a suspected crack-cocaine pipe with residue, a report said.
Sept. 1
Assault: Authorities answered a disturbance call in the 1100 block of North Highland Avenue, where a woman reported that two other women had attacked her during an argument about use of a laundry room.
Theft: A woman discovered a camera, a cellphone and $100 missing from her apartment in the 900 block of North Avenue.
Drugs: Officers issued a summons to a 14-year-old Girard girl charging possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia after a Washington Avenue man said he discovered suspected marijuana in his residence.
Sept. 2
Arrest: Police took into custody Timothy C. Durr of Nebraska Avenue, McDonald. The 36-year-old Durr was wanted on a warrant charging failure to appear in court.
Domestic violence: Robert Trammell, 28, of Elruth Court, Girard, was charged with the crime after his pregnant girlfriend alleged that Trammell had choked her and twice punched her mouth during an argument related to housework.
Sept. 3
Criminal mischief: Someone cut a link to a metal chain attached to a gate in the 30 block of South State Street.
Drugs: Police said they saw a man slumped in a car near South Market Street before they charged Robert W. Mogg, no information given, with possession of drug-abuse instruments and resisting arrest. Mogg had a suspected crack-cocaine pipe and was uncooperative during the booking process, authorities said.
HUBBARD
Aug. 27
Arrest: Authorities responded to a possibly intoxicated person at a West Liberty Street discount store, where they charged Amato P. Zaccone, 54, of Parish Avenue, Hubbard, with disorderly conduct while intoxicated. Zaccone also was wanted on a probation-violation charge.
Aug. 28
Criminal mischief: Someone in the 100 block of Orchard Avenue tossed eggs at a truck, which also was found with a light scratch on its bed.
Fraud: A Tulip Drive man told officers he received five calls from someone claiming he owes the Internal Revenue Service money and that he would be arrested if he failed to call a certain number.
Aug. 29
Drugs: Officers conducted a welfare check on Rebecca Avenue before arresting Jonathan R. Smith, 29, of Parish Avenue, Hubbard, on charges of possession of drug-abuse instruments and drug paraphernalia. Smith, who also was wanted on a probation-violation warrant, had in a backpack syringes and a spoon with burn marks common in drug use, police said.
Aug. 30
Arrest: The Ohio State Highway Patrol handed 47-year-old Greg D. Hackett to Hubbard authorities. Hackett, of state Route 7, Brookfield, was wanted on a misdemeanor warrant charging permitting drug abuse.
Assault: An Elmwood Drive woman alleged that a girl, 13, smacked her 12-year-old son in the face and tossed a tray at him while they were at a West Liberty Street fast-food restaurant.
Identity fraud: A Doris Drive woman found out her debit-card number had been used to make about $50 worth of fraudulent charges.
Theft: A $150 power washer was stolen from Animal Care Hospital, 47 Hall Ave.
LIBERTY
Aug. 27
Arrest: Youngstown police handed John G. Hartwig, 57, of Alameda Avenue, Youngstown, to township authorities. He was wanted on a warrant.
Arrest: A traffic stop near Gypsy Lane resulted in 35-year-old Jason L. Blalock being taken into custody on a Youngstown warrant charging failure to appear in court. Blalock, of Euclid Boulevard, Boardman, also was charged with obstructing official business when, police said, he provided a phony name.
Theft: A $1,500 diamond and a radar detector were removed from a car in the 800 block of Thomas Lane.
Robbery: Authorities responded to an altercation at Walmart, 200 Goldie Road, where 19-year-old Christopher W. Taylor of West Dewey Avenue, Youngstown, faced charges of robbery, intimidation and vandalism, all felonies, as well as one misdemeanor count each of menacing and obstructing official business. Taylor was in an altercation with a loss-prevention official; he also threatened several times to kill a police officer and kicked a cruiser’s rear doors and partition, a report stated.
Theft: A Youngstown man reported a $300 computer tablet stolen while at a Goldie Road store.
Theft: A wallet was taken from a car in the 3200 block of Belmont Avenue.
Theft/drugs: Officers answered a call regarding a stolen cellphone, then charged 23-year-old Tyler R. Adams of Iowa Avenue, McDonald, with theft as well as possession of drug-abuse instruments and drug paraphernalia after his girlfriend, of Liberty, alleged Adams had stolen her phone and sold it to buy heroin. Also, a needle and a spoon with burn marks typical of drug use were found, police said.
Arrest: Police responded to an abandoned car in the 4700 block of Belmont Avenue and took 39-year-old Robert E. Cherry into custody. Cherry, of Scott Lane, Cortland, was wanted on a Niles warrant.
Aug. 28
Breaking and entering: A used computer desk, a drill and a lawn mower were stolen from a residence in the 300 block of Goldie Road.
Theft/drugs: Officers responded to a shoplifting situation at Walmart before charging 29-year-old Priscilla D. Scott with theft and possession of heroin, criminal tools, drug-abuse instruments and drug paraphernalia. The Cleveland woman had three hypodermic needles, a bindle containing 0.5 gram of suspected heroin, two suspected crack-cocaine pipes, a spoon with suspected heroin residue and a small pair of pliers, a report showed.
Drugs: Dominick J. Demarco, 25, of Florist Avenue, Girard, was charged with possession of marijuana and criminal tools after police had pulled him over on Belmont Avenue and said they found a jar containing suspected marijuana, a digital scale and papers commonly used to roll marijuana. Demarco also was wanted on two Youngstown warrants charging failure to appear in court.
Aug. 29
Arrest: Robert J. Hanni, 28, of South Lakeview Avenue, Youngstown, was arrested at the Mahoning County jail on a warrant.
Fraud: A Keefer Road man discovered his debit/credit-card number had been used to make $174 worth of unauthorized charges in New York.
Arrest: Ashley Toy, 29, was taken into custody at the Mahoning County jail on a warrant. Toy, of Middletown Road, Canfield, also faced a felony obstructing-justice charge when, authorities alleged, she admitted having rented a room at a township motel for a friend she knew was wanted by police.
Aug. 30
Arrest: Shadi Mohammad, 36, of Tibbetts-Wick Road, Girard, was taken into custody during a traffic stop near his residence. He was wanted on a Liberty warrant.
Arrest: Police picked up 39-year-old Deon Burley of Forestview Drive, Youngstown. Burley was wanted on an outstanding township warrant.
Criminal damaging: A Green Acres Drive woman alleged an irate relative tossed a desktop computer and damaged a window when the accuser refused to give the relative a set of car keys.
Burglary: To an apartment in the 10 block of Holly Drive via an open window. Stolen were a 32-inch flat-screen TV and an identification card.
Drugs: Jacie L. Palumbo, 31, of Warren-Sharon Road, Vienna, and Robert J. Leslie, 43, of Pulaski Road, New Castle, Pa., each faced a charge of possession of drug-abuse instruments after authorities had pulled them over near Gypsy Lane. Three syringes and a spoon with burn marks were found, a report said.
Aug. 31
Breaking and entering: Someone broke into a second-floor apartment in the 20 block of Trumbull court, then stole a tattoo kit and clothing.
Sept. 1
Domestic violence: Township authorities assisted Girard police who arrested 36-year-old Timothy C. Durr of Nebraska Avenue, McDonald, on a domestic-violence charge. Durr’s estranged wife alleged he had threatened to slit her throat and kill the accuser when she refused to reveal to him her whereabouts.
Theft: A Youngstown woman reported her wallet and $740 stolen while at a Goldie Road business.
Sept. 2
Arrest: Police at the Mahoning County jail arrested 24-year-old Darrius A. Pierce of Orchard Hill Drive, Canfield, on a township warrant.
Criminal damaging: Someone in the 1100 block of Tibbetts-Wick Road tried to force open a vehicle’s rear doors. Damage was estimated at $3,000.
