General Motors will kick off its third annual “teamGM Cares Week” on Monday in an effort to celebrate volunteerism companywide. As part of this week, employees in Michigan, Arizona, Georgia, Indiana, Maryland, New York, Ohio and Texas will engage in their communities through volunteer service work. Volunteers from GM’s Lordstown plant will serve meals to the homeless at the Dorothy Day House in Youngstown.

Rise Pies opening

Rise Pies, a fast casual pizza chain, 439 Boardman- Poland Road, will host its public grand-opening event from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday featuring WHOT-FM Hot 101 with live radio segments and giveaways.

“The pizza found in Youngstown is some of the best in the country. It’s what we’re known for locally and can be nationally. So we wanted to create a dining experience that combined the pace of a fast casual restaurant with the taste of Youngstown — and bring it to a national audience,” Eddie Muransky, Rise Pies president, said in a statement.

Job event

YOUNGSTOWN

The Create Your Own Job Event is hosted by Earnest.com, a new Mahoning Valley company designed to help people start businesses based on the skills they already have.

On Friday from 1 to 6 p.m., Valley residents are invited to stop by the Youngstown Business Incubator to start their own businesses and meet some of the excellent small business support organizations in the region. The Earnest team will be there with computers to walk new businesses through the startup process and answer questions.

Allegiant Air charges

LAS VEGAS

Allegiant Air requires that customers who need a ticket agent’s help to print their boarding pass at the airport will pay a $5 charge per boarding pass printed. Customers who use a mobile boarding pass on their mobile device or tablet, or check in online and print their boarding pass at home will save themselves the small fee.

“Allegiant continues to find innovative ways to create a faster, easier travel experience for our customers while at the same time reducing costs,” Andrew Levy, Allegiant Travel Co. president, said.

Kroger plans to hire 20,000 more workers

NEW YORK

Supermarket chain Kroger said Friday it will hire about 20,000 workers to fill permanent jobs.

Kroger Co. is the largest U.S. supermarket operator and it runs Ralph’s, Fry’s and other chains. The company had 375,000 full- and part-time employees as of Feb. 1 and says it has created around 40,000 new jobs in the past six years.

Kroger said the jobs are available and said it hopes to fill them as soon as possible. It described them as a mix of full- and part-time positions but did not offer more specific details. The company said many of its entry-level jobs start as part-time positions and can turn into full-time jobs.
