Window break-in under investigation

Police are investigating a burglary at Monticello Apartments at 4110 Monticello Blvd.
The burglary happened Wednesday while the resident and her daughter were at work and school, respectively.
Two TVs and a gold necklace were taken. The burglar got in through a window hidden by shrubs, police said.
Trash fire at Ulta
HOWLAND
One store evacuated on its own. Another was evacuated by firefighters. Workers in the Ulta store and the 5-Below store in front of Super K-Mart in the Eastwood Mall complex were able to return to work in about 15 minutes — after Howland firefighters discovered the source of smoke in the Ulta store Thursday morning.
Howland Fire Chief James Pantalone said firefighters needed about 10 minutes to discover that the smoke was coming from smoldering items in a garbage can. There was no damage and no injuries in the 11 a.m. incident.
Breaker-box fire damages house
YOUNGSTOWN
Fire reports say an electrical problem started a fire at a West Side home just before 6 p.m. Wednesday that caused $3,000 in damage.
Crews were called to 150 Bouquet Ave. and found the breaker box in the basement had caught fire.
Firefighters used a fire extinguisher. Reports said other homes in the neighborhood were without power and there may have been a power surge.
There were no injuries.
Federal indictment for drugs, weapons
YOUNGSTOWN
A federal grand jury issued a four count indictment against a man for drug and weapons charges.
Donald Frampton, 28, of Youngstown, is charged with two counts of possession with intent to distribute heroin, intent to distribute cocaine and being a felon in possession of a firearm.
An indictment says Frampton tried to sell drugs July 2 and 3, and July 3 he had also had two handguns, a shotgun and a rifle, despite previous felony convictions in Mahoning County Common Pleas Court.
He is scheduled to be arraigned in federal court Sept. 19, according to court records.
Drug arrest
CAMPBELL
Police arrested a 22-year-old city man on a charge of drug possession after a Wednesday afternoon traffic stop.
Police arrested Ryan C. Frey of Bright Avenue, a passenger in a car that failed to stop at a stop sign, after finding two bags containing 1.3 grams of suspected marijuana on him. He admitted to police he had the drugs in his shorts when officers asked if anything illegal was in the car.
Frey is set to appear in Campbell Municipal Court at 9 a.m. Sept. 16.
Grief support groups
HUBBARD
The Kelley-Robb-Cummins Funeral Home is offering its 10-week “Grief Recovery Instructional Support Groups” that will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesdays, beginning Tuesday at 709 N. Main St.
Led by Philip Roland, grief counselor for the funeral home since 1991, the sessions are free and open to anyone who has lost a loved one.

History walks set for Sunday

The Mahoning Valley Historical Society’s Founders Day Open House is a free event from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday, at the Arms Family Museum, 648 Wick Ave.
Walking tours of Wick Avenue will be part of the event, and the tours will be conducted by students in YSU’s applied history practicum. They will last about one hour and will focus on the history and development of Wick, from Millionaire’s Row to the cultural corridor. Tours will leave periodically throughout the event as groups assemble.
A panel exhibit highlighting the history of the corridor will also be on display. The museum will be open for tours, and the education staff will have games and activities for kids. Refreshments will be available. For information, call 330-743-2589 or visit www.mahoninghistory.org.
Benefit sale, dinner
CORTLAND
Calvary Bible Church, 2878 Warren-Meadville Road, will have a rummage sale, silent auction and spaghetti dinner Saturday to benefit breast-cancer patient Marcy Evans of Southington.
The rummage sale is set for 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., the silent auction is from 8:30 a.m. to 6:40 p.m., and the dinner is 4 to 7 p.m. The suggested donation for the dinner is $8 for adults, $4 for children 12 and under.
Evans was diagnosed in January with breast cancer and is undergoing chemotherapy. She has had three surgeries and will have two more.
Lot cleanup planned
WARREN
Trumbull Neighborhood Partnership, Mahoning Valley Organizing Collaborative, South West Neighborhood Association, Trumbull Area Lutheran Church and the BS Land Co. will have a neighborhood cleanup of a vacant lot on the Southwest side.
It will take place from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the dead end of Jackson Street and Lener Avenue. All are welcome. Bring gloves, bags and rakes if you can.
Poland photo winners are announced
POLAND
Entries in “The Beauty of the Woods” photography contest are now on display in The Gallery at Wittenauer’s, 122 S. Main St., through Sept. 21.
A reception honoring the winners will take place at 2 p.m. Sept. 21 at The Gallery instead of the previously announced date of Sept. 7.
The best-of-show winner in the adult division is Paula Ludt of Poland. Allison Butz of Brookfield won first place in the adult division. In the teenage division, Jordan Downie of Poland won first place. Madelyn Tonus of Poland won first place in the 12 and under division.
All photographs in the contest were taken in Poland Municipal Forest.
Downtown roads to be closed for concert

North Phelps Street, between Commerce and W. Federal streets, will be closed from 10 a.m. till 11 p.m., Saturday , due to the Via Sahara Reunion Concert.
Fire damages kitchen
AUSTINTOWN
A kitchen fire left no injuries Thursday night in the township.
Austintown Fire Department responded to a call at 4841 Westchester Drive about 7 p.m. Thursday. Authorities said it was a fire that started around a burner on the stove and caused damage to cabinets and most items in the kitchen. Damages were estimated between $4,000 and $5,000.
Fire officials believe the stove was left on. There were no injuries.
