Butler sets preview of documentary

YOUNGSTOWN

The Butler Institute of American Art and Western Reserve PBS will present a free documentary preview, “James McNeil Whistler and the Case for Beauty” at 2 p.m. Sunday in Beecher Cente Auditorium, 524 Wick Ave.

The film examines the biography of the man and his career. He is best known for his painting “Whistler’s Mother.” Today, he is placed in the first rank of modern painters.

Take a last ride on ‘The Mantis’

Get your thrills while they last because the “The Mantis” roller coaster at Cedar Point will shut down permanently at 8 p.m. Oct. 19.

Until then, roller coaster enthusiasts can add their rides to the already 22 million trips taken since the coaster opened May 11, 1996.

Hungarian center sets fall festival

HIRAM, OHIO

Hungarian Cultural Center of Northeastern Ohio will host its annual Fall Festival on Sept. 14 at the club grounds, 12027 Abbott Road.

The event will feature Hungarian festival dancers from St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church and Cleveland Regos from Cleveland Hungarian Scouts.

Gates will open at 11 a.m. Admission is $5 a person and children 12 and younger free.

There will be Hungarian foods and music from 2 to 6 p.m. in the dance pavilion.
