Press conference

YOUNGSTOWN

The NAACP Education Committee will have a press conference at 11 a.m. today at the Newport branch library, 3730 Market St. to address what the committee says is the state superintendent’s failure to improve the academic rating of Youngstown schools and the attempt to transfer his legal responsibility under state law to the general public.

After four years and $500 million, the state superintendent, Academic Distress Commission and Superintendent Connie Hathorn should have developed an academic recovery plan, implemented it, succeeded, and the ADC should have already ceased to exist, according to the press release from the local chapter of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People.
