Retirements to leave openings among top ranks in police and fire departments
Staff report
WARREN
The Warren Civil Service Commission will give three promotional exams Nov. 15 to fill the position of police lieutenamt and fire assistant chief and lieutenant.
There will be three openings as a result of three retirements.
In the police department, Lt. Martin Gargas will be promoted to captain with the retirement of Capt. Timothy Roberts on Dec. 28. That will leave an open lieutenant position to fill.
Captain is the next-highest rank below chief, and lieutenant is below captain.
In the fire department, Dan Suttles, assistant fire chief, will be retiring in March, leaving a vacancy at that level, which is one position below chief.
The fire department also will have a vacancy at lieutenant because of the Dec. 8 retirement of Ted Ray.
