Man indicted in July shooting

A Compton Lane man was indicted by a Mahoning County grand jury Thursday, accused in a shooting in July that left a man wounded.

Jerome Given, 22, was indicted on direct presentment on charges of attempted murder, two counts of felonious assault with firearm specifications and being a felon in possession of a firearm.

Given was indicted in a July 11 shooting that wounded Charles Pete of Willis Avenue.

Pete was shot at an unknown location and drove himself to St. Elizabeth Health Center.

His car was pockmarked with bullet holes, and the driver’s seat was covered with blood. There also was a revolver on the driver’s seat, reports said.

Pete suffered wounds to the hip and chest.

According to jail records, Given is not in custody.
