Boardman Band Night set for Sept. 6

The Boardman Spartan marching band and the Boardman Band and Orchestra Parents, Inc. will host Boardman Band Night ‘14 on Sept. 6 at 7 p.m. in Boardman Stadium. Participating high school bands include Struthers, West Branch, Lowellville, Austintown Fitch, Canfield, Howland and Boardman. Admission at the gates is $5 for adults and $3 for students. Senior citizens are admitted free to all Boardman band events. The gates open at 6 p.m.

This year’s Band Night Show will live up to the tradition of exciting entertainment by the BSMB. Boardman continues its traditional Run-On and “Fanfare for the Common Man.” The opening marching drill is accompanied by a unique medley of Broadway tunes spanning three decades.

The “features” portion of the program will begin with the Spartan Silks spinning their flags while the band plays “Friend Like Me” from Disney’s “Aladdin.” The band then marches, plays and sings while a Spartan Twirler does a baton routine to a hit by British rock group Bastille called “Pompeii.” The Spartan Sweethearts then dance to a tune right from the radio by MKTO called “Classic.”

The Boardman Band is under the direction of Thomas M. Ruggieri, Timothy P. Tuite, Steven Chambers, and Michael Shevock. Also on staff are Jamie Cordon, Niki Dispenza, Kristi Guveiyian, Meghan Susko and Jina Vitullo who instruct the Sweethearts, Silks and Twirler. Band Night ’14 will be the sixth performance of the BSMB since the season started with Howland Band Night on Aug. 19.
