Girls volleyball defeated
Austintown Fitch volleyball lost to Lakeview 1-3 on Aug. 28 with scores of 25-14, 25-19, 22-25 and 25-19. Sarah Obradovich had seven points, two aces, 15 kills, 39 attempts and four blocks, while Katarina Lewis had 12 assists, six points and 17 digs. Alex Conners contributed 21 digs, 28 service receptions and eight points. The junior varsity team lost 2-0 with scores of 25-23 and 25-12.
Girls golf has loss
The Austintown girls golf team recently lost to Howland with a score of 196-201 at Deer Creek Golf Course. Leading the Austintown team was Rebeca Castillo (42), Jamie Rasor (43), Sam Tofil (53), Cheyenne Grove (63) and Alexis Saunders (63).
Fitch volleyball defeats Howland
The Fitch girls volleyball team defeated Howland 3-0 with scores of 25-17, 25-10, 25-19 on Aug. 26. Leading the team in serves was Sarah Obradovich with 18 points and eight aces. Obradovich also led the team in attacks (24 attempts and 18 kills) and sets (nine assists). The lead defender was Alex Conners with six receptions and seven digs, while the lead blocker was Alyssa Spear with five blocks. The junior varsity team also saw victory against Howland with scores of 24-26, 25-12 and 25-10.
Girls participate in suburban league meet
The Austintown girls track team participated in the Suburban League Meet at Austintown Park on Aug. 26. The team claimed fourth place out of seven teams. Placing for Austintown were Jessica Goist in 12th place with a time of 24:12 and Kylie Vestal in thirteenth place with a time of 24:15. Team scores were Howland - 54 (2, 5, 8, 15, 24), Boardman - 67 (1, 10, 17, 19, 20), West Branch - 71 (3, 7, 9, 25, 27), Austintown - 92 (12, 13, 16, 22, 29), Mineral Ridge - 99 (11, 18, 21, 23, 26), Jackson Milton - 130 (4, 14, 32, 37, 43) and Lowellville - 168 (6, 39, 40, 41, 42).
Scholarship golf outing to be Sept. 20
The Parole Officer and Sigma Chi Eddie Cantor Second Annual Memorial Scholarship Golf Outing will take place on Sept. 20 at Knoll Run Golf Course, located at 1421 Coitsville Road in Lowellville. Registration is at 8 a.m. with a shotgun start at 9 a.m. The cost is $65 per person and includes golf, a cart for two, doughnuts, lunch, dinner and skills contests. Sponsorships are available at $100 for the Silver Hole Sponsor (advertised on tee box), $300 for the Gold Sponsor (signage and tee box) and $500 for the Elite Sponsor (One team and all signage). Send golf registration and sponsorship request with check made payable to the Ed Canto Memorial Scholarship Fund to Rosemary Jones - Chairperson, 4510 Nantucket Dr., Apt. 6, Youngstown, OH 44515. Respond by Sept. 1. Reservations are limited and are on a first-come, first-paid basis.

It’s fall sports season. Neighbors wants to be there every step of the way. If you’re a summer sports coach or the parent of an athlete, we need you help. In order to get teams and players the recognition they deserve, we want to showcase them in our pages. We can only do that if you commit to sending us game reports and photos each week. If you send it, it will get in.
