YOUNGSTOWN

Police say a man who stabbed himself inside a West Side home Wednesday morning has died.

Police were called to a 35 S. Brockway Ave. home about 10 a.m. for a report of a 26-year-old man who had stabbed himself during an argument.

Chief of Detectives Capt. Brad Blackburn said the man was arguing with his girlfriend, who was packing a suitcase, when he told her he was going to stab himself — and he did.

The woman did not see the actual stabbing, but she tried to stop the bleeding and then called 911, Blackburn said.

Blackburn said investigators do not think the man wanted to commit suicide, but they added they are not sure what his frame of mind was when he stabbed himself.

The man’s name has not been released because his relatives have yet to be notified.
