A summary of recent criminal activity in Poland and Boardman townships:
POLAND
Aug. 28
Aggravated menacing: A 49-year-old New Springfield man said he was threatened while in the 6100 block of Center Road.
Aug. 30
Assault: A Youngstown-Pittsburgh Road man suffered minor injuries after having been assaulted at a nearby eatery.
Aug. 31
Theft: Police responded to several vehicle break-ins on Christopher Drive in which a laptop computer, a global-positioning-system unit, money, sunglasses, perfume and other items were taken.
BOARDMAN
Aug. 28
Arrest: A vehicle check on East Midlothian Boulevard led to the arrest of 22-year-old Michael L. Reed of South Raccoon Road, Austintown. He was wanted on a Weathersfield Township warrant charging failure to appear in court.
Misuse of a credit card: A Gardenview Drive woman learned her stolen card had been used at several area locations to rack up about $600 in fraudulent purchases.
Theft: A Murrysville, Pa., woman reported roughly $11,080 worth of jewelry missing from a suitcase while she stayed at a South Avenue motel.
Theft: The Ohio State Highway Patrol handed 19-year-old Derick M. Edwards Jr. of Tampa Avenue, Youngstown, to township authorities. Edwards faced a felony-theft charge after a July 15 incident in which several people reported cellphones, a gift card and other items missing from their lockers at a U.S. Route 224 fitness center.
Theft: An elderly Southwoods Drive woman told police that a man she had hired to do landscaping work borrowed $2,000 from her but failed to pay it back. He never completed the job, however, and stole food from her refrigerator, she reported.
Burglary: To a residence in the 7100 block of Glenwood Avenue, though it appeared nothing was missing or had been disturbed.
Theft: Two Youngstown girls, 14 and 16, were accused of stealing socks and two pairs of shoes from Sears in Southern Park Mall and giving police false names.
Theft: Authorities arrested 32-year-old Desmond L. Clark on two counts of theft and one of attempted theft after a July 15 situation in which a Newport Drive woman alleged Clark, of North Bruce Street, Youngstown, had sold her three $25 gas cards for $40 before she discovered the cards were invalid.
Aug. 29
Arrest: Authorities conducted a vehicle-registration check near Market Street, in which they took into custody Ashley R. Toy of West Middletown Road, Canfield. Toy, 29, was wanted on felony warrants from Liberty Township charging one count each of drug possession, trafficking in drugs and possession of criminal tools.
Theft: Kenisha R. Coleman, 20, of East Auburndale Avenue; J’Nai T. Martin, 19, of Delaware Avenue; and Breosha M. Moses of Cambridge Avenue, were charged. The three Youngstown women were accused of stealing three pairs of jeans, two purses and undergarments from Sears.
Drugs: Police in the 9000 block of Market Street pulled over Joseph D. Yohn, 46, of Lucretia Lane, Columbiana, and charged him with one felony count of drug abuse and one misdemeanor count each of drug abuse (marijuana) and operating a vehicle impaired. A rock of suspected heroin and a bag of suspected marijuana were found, a report showed.
Theft: A man stole a 24-ounce can of beer from a Shell True North gas station, 1510 Boardman-Canfield Road.
Theft: A Sony PlayStation 4 game console valued at $1,400 was removed from a vehicle in the 7300 block of Southern Boulevard.
Theft: A wallet, a driver’s license and two credit cards were missing from a vehicle in the 200 block of Erskine Avenue.
Aug. 30
Aggravated menacing: An Old Oxford Lane woman alleged two neighbors who were selling drugs from their apartment threatened to have someone kill the accuser if she told anyone about the activity.
Burglary: Occurred in the 6000 block of Tam-O-Shanter Drive via a rear door. Property stolen included a 12-gauge shotgun and a $500 pair of diamond earrings, for a $6,300 loss.
Drugs: Cody A. Highley, 20, of East Fifth Street, Salem, was taken into custody in the 5300 block of Market Street on a felony drug-abuse charge and a misdemeanor charge of possession of drug paraphernalia. Fifteen Ecstasy pills, a bag of powdered Ecstasy and a digital scale were found, a report said.
Identity theft: An Ivy Hills Drive man learned that someone had opened an account in his name without consent.
Theft: A $300 carpet-scrubbing machine was rented but not returned to Dollar General, 271 Boardman-Canfield Road, by the agreed-upon time.
Theft: A $600 iPad device was missing from a car at Southern Park Mall.
Arrest: Victoria M. Lewis, 21, of Ferndale Avenue, Youngstown, was charged with operating a vehicle impaired after having been pulled over near Indianola Road.
Arrest: A traffic stop near Gertrude Avenue resulted in a charge of operating a vehicle impaired against 43-year-old Amy E. Spath of Twin Oaks Court, Canfield, who also was cited on a charge of driving 67 mph in a 40-mph zone.
Assault: An Old Oxford Lane man alleged a woman struck the back of his head with a set of crutches during a dispute. The man complained of pain and was taken to St. Elizabeth Health Center’s Boardman Campus.
Harassment: A Lemans Drive woman told police her 15-year-old granddaughter’s former boyfriend made about 69 such calls to the girl and failed to leave her alone.
Criminal damaging: A vehicle in the 400 block of Boardman-Poland Road was found with a smashed rear-hatch window. Damage was estimated at $300.
Theft: A Canfield woman reported a $450 iPhone stolen while in the 700 block of Boardman-Poland Road.
Theft: A Youngstown woman reported her wallet stolen while at a South Avenue discount store.
Theft by deception: A Glendale Avenue man who had answered an online ad regarding brush removal told officers a man charged $150 to remove a pile from the accuser’s yard but failed to do so.
Unauthorized use of a vehicle: A 15-year-old township boy was picked up on Market Street. He was wanted on an Arizona warrant charging unauthorized use of a motor vehicle.
Aug. 31
Arrest: A vehicle check in the 4100 block of Glenwood Avenue resulted in 34-year-old Michael Fountain Jr.’s arrest. Fountain, of Midland Avenue, Youngstown, was wanted on a felony-larceny warrant.
Burglary: Took place at an apartment in the 4000 block of Glenwood Avenue through an unlocked front door. A 70-inch TV was stolen.
Domestic violence: Authorities took custody of 24-year-old Justin A. Mendenhall of Oxford Street, Youngstown, who was wanted on a warrant after a May 22 situation. Mendenhall’s girlfriend, of Boardman, alleged he had grabbed her hair and punched her face during an argument in a vehicle when he became enraged because she refused to allow him to see her cellphone, a report stated.
Identity theft: A Youngstown man discovered his credit card was used without authorization after he had opened an account at a Southern Park Mall business.
Theft: A New Castle, Pa., man found out his stolen credit card had been used without permission at a Boardman-Poland Road clothing store.
Theft: Four men stole about $400 worth of groceries from GFS Marketplace, 7460 South Ave.
Menacing: A worker for a South Avenue discount store reported a woman threatened to beat her up.
Sept. 1
Arrest: Adam D. Meloy, 19, of Longview Court, North Lima, surrendered on charges of failing to comply with police and drag racing after authorities said Meloy admitted having illegally drag raced Aug. 26 in the township and intentionally trying to elude authorities.
Breaking and entering: An off-duty Poland Village police officer reported spotting a man in a gray hooded sweatshirt, jeans and a small beard running from Boardman Auto Spa, 7685 South Ave., after an alarm had been activated.
Assault: A Glenwood Avenue woman told police a female acquaintance punched her face and sat on top of the accuser to prevent her from getting up, then grabbed her hair and dragged her down several steps. The argument evidently began after the accuser had taken another person to the Canfield Fair, a report showed.
Misuse of a credit card: A West Boulevard man noticed $450 worth of unauthorized activity to his bank account, which apparently originated in New York.
Drugs: A traffic stop on Glenwood Avenue led to a felony drug-possession charge and one misdemeanor count of possession of drug paraphernalia against Breona J. Layton, 22, after authorities alleged Layton, of West Midlothian Boulevard, Youngstown, had a bag of suspected heroin and three cut straws containing a white powder.
Theft: A Boardman woman noticed a temporary tag missing from her car while at the Canfield Fair.
Theft: A 15-year-old Struthers girl was accused of stealing a $35 pair of blue jeans from Dillard’s in Southern Park Mall.
Menacing: An Edenridge Drive woman said another woman has made and sent threatening calls and text messages to her.
