Lowellville school administrators accept ice bucket challenge from principal

LOWELLVILLE
The school superintendent, assistant principal and all five members of the board of education will take the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge during Lowellville’s first home football game.
The event will raise awareness about the disease and its charity.
The participants were challenged by Lowellville Principal Jared Van Kirk and assistant football coach John Falconi when they did the challenge at the school’s annual Cow Pickin’ event Aug. 24.
“[Falconi] and I decided to take on the challenge together and let the football players douse us with really cold water at our annual event,” Van Kirk said.
The group of seven people agreed to do the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge during pre-game activities at the football game about 6:30 p.m. Sept. 12. Eugene Thomas, Lowellville superintendent, said students will be invited to “do the dumping” that night.
“Our entire board is just as excited as I am to take part in this awareness program about the ALS disease,” Thomas said. “We figured having it on a football game early in the season would be a great time to get the whole student body on board.”
Participating in the pre-game challenge will be: Thomas; Christine Sawicki, assistant principal; James Alfano, president of the board of education; and board members Robert Zackasee, Joseph Ballone, Lisa Donofrio and Michele McCaughtry.
