Tressel to take up Ice Bucket Challenge

Staff report

YOUNGSTOWN

Youngstown State University President Jim Tressel and YSU deans will get doused with ice water as part of the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge on Friday on the campus core.

The event from noon to 2 p.m. outside Kilcawley Center will raise money for the ALS Association to fight amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease. The Ice Bucket Challenge, which involves dumping a bucket of ice water over someone’s head, has swept the nation and raised millions of dollars for ALS. Students can purchase tickets at a table in Kilcawley Center on Tuesday and Wednesday from noon to 2 p.m., for the right to douse Tressel or the deans. Tickets are $1 or six for $5. Tickets will be drawn Wednesday evening.

The event starts at noon with the Student Government Association T-Shirt Trade. Students can trade-in their T-shirts from other colleges and universities for a YSU T-shirt. At 1 p.m., the YSU Marching Pride will perform, followed by introduction of the participants, remarks from Tressel and then the dumping of the ice water.
