FBI says it’s addressing nude celebrity photos

LOS ANGELES

The FBI says it is addressing allegations that nude photos of several female celebrities have been stolen and posted online.

A statement released by the agency Monday afternoon doesn’t elaborate on what steps are being taken to determine how intimate images of Oscar-winning actress Jennifer Lawrence and other stars were leaked.

The photos of Lawrence and others began appearing online Sunday. The 24-year-old’s publicist called the release of the images a violation of the actress’s privacy.

Apple said Monday it is investigating whether any of its customers’ iCloud accounts had been tampered with.

The FBI has investigated previous leaks of nude celebrity images, including leaks involving Scarlett Johansson, Christina Aguilera and footage shot of television sports reporter Erin Andrews in a Tennessee hotel room.

Muscular dystrophy fundraiser raises $52 million

CHICAGO

The Muscular Dystrophy Association’s nationally broadcast annual telethon has raised about $52.3 million in contributions over the Labor Day weekend.

The two-hour “MDA Show of Strength” aired Sunday on ABC, and the organization said it would continue accepting donations through Monday. A final tally is expected today.

MDA President and CEO Steven M. Derks said it was inspiring to see so many celebrities, musicians and athletes join forces to help raise money for the treatment of muscular dystrophy and related diseases.

Grammy-winner LeAnn Rimes, Rascal Flatts and hip-hop star Jason Derulo were part of the show’s lineup this year, along with other entertainers.

The telethon was the fourth since comedian Jerry Lewis’s 45-year role as host ended. The 2013 telethon raised more than $59 million.

Carrie Underwood announces pregnancy

NASHVILLE, Tenn.

Country star Carrie Underwood and NHL player Mike Fisher chose the Labor Day holiday to announce they are expecting their first child.

Underwood and Fisher posted the announcement on their social-media accounts Monday. Underwood’s publicist confirmed the couple will be expecting their first child in the spring.

The 31-year-old Underwood shot to fame after winning “American Idol.” She has won six Grammys and sold more than 15 million albums worldwide. She was the first woman to twice win the Academy of Country Music’s entertainer of the year award.

She will be co-hosting the upcoming Country Music Association Awards with Brad Paisley in November.

Fisher, a 34-year-old center for the Nashville Predators, is recovering from a ruptured left Achilles tendon and is expected to miss the start of the season.
