BIG LOCK update

As of Monday, an estimated 1,000 locks were placed on the BIG LOCK rooster outside the Fine Arts Building at the fair. The Fine Arts staff sold approximately 650 locks to fairgoers. Some fairgoers brought in their own decorated locks, some of which appeared to be antique.

The Fine Arts staff is coming up with an art project idea for the keys to each lock. Fairgoers were asked to place the keys in a gallon jug beneath the rooster for the future art project.

Busy year

The two Red Cross stations saw a total of 462 people from Wednesday until Sunday at the fair. An estimated 24 were transported to the hospital. Overall, there were about 200 ambulance cart runs made by EMTs/ paramedics.

Attendance down

Attendance was down 22,642 from last year with a total of 55,752 fairgoers Sunday.

Overall, attendance was down 16,438 in five days. The total attendance in those five days this year was 233,937.

DiRusso’s honored

Robert DiRusso of DiRusso’s Italian Sausage received recognition for outstanding service from the Canfield Fair Board on Monday.

DiRusso’s has been serving sausage sandwiches for 50 years this year. It started at the fair in 1964 and has since grown to seven stands, with two of the stands offering turkey sausage as an alternative.

Reba McEntire fans

Approximately 6,000 people attended the Reba McEntire concert Sunday evening in the grandstand at the168th Canfield Fair.

The Willis Clan was the opening act.
