Ross signs with Dolphins; 4 make practice squads

Staff/wire report

Former Youngstown State University cornerback Brandian Ross has a new home — Miami.

Sunday, the Miami Dolphins signed the three-year NFL veteran, one day after he was released by the Oakland Raiders, his team for the past two seasons where he played in 30 of 32 games.

Ross spent 2011 on Green Bay’s practice squad as an undrafted free agent.

Also Sunday, four players with ties to the Mahoning Valley joined NFL practice squads.

The Baltimore Ravens signed linebacker John Simon (Cardinal Mooney/Ohio State) and running back Fitzgerald Toussaint (Liberty/Michigan) to the practice squads. Both had been cut by the Ravens on Saturday when NFL teams were required to reduce their rosters to 53.

The Atlanta Falcons signed safety Sean Baker (Canfield/Ball State) to the practice squad, a position he held last season.

Lamar Mady, a former guard at YSU, was signed to the Raiders’ practice squad. He was released by Oakland on Saturday and is back on the Raiders’ practice squad, a role he had last season.
