View From Above

When: Saturday, 10 a.m. to noon.

What: Last year, Mill Creek MetroParks constructed an elevated observation platform to allow visitors to freely view birds and other wildlife without disturbing them. The deck elevation combined with the natural topography of the site puts observers about 50 feet above the ponds. Ohio Certified Volunteer Naturalist Nancy will be stationed there. Stop by to look for birds and chat.

Book Discussion

When: Saturday, 10:30 a.m. to noon.

What: The Washington Post Book World called “The Gift of the Good Land: Further Essays Cultural and Agricultural” by Wendell Berry a “reference book of the body and soul.” Read his arguments for family- based local economies, focused on sustainable practices that take into account how land, people, nature, animals and family are interwoven, then join our discussion.

Farm Harvest Fun

When: Saturday, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

What: Celebrate the harvest with Mahoning County Jr. Fair Poultry Club. Families will learn about types of poultry, enjoy harvest activities, see harvest characters and hear harvest-time stories. Face-painting and fall turkey craft available for a small fee.

ACOUSTIC JAM

When: Sunday, 2 to 4 p.m.

What: Join us for a music jam. Bring an instrument or just come to listen. Beginners welcome. Make new friends and learn a new tune or two.

WOODCARVERS WORKSHOP

When: Monday, 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.

What: Woodcarving enthusiasts of all skill levels are invited to join Don Danford to carve with or just observe. Beginners and those curious about woodcarving are especially welcome to attend. Don enjoys sharing his passion with all who are interested. Participants must be at least 18.
