African Children's Choir in concert

The African Children’s Choir will present a concert at 7 p.m. Nov. 13 at Powers Auditorium, downtown.

The choir, founded 30 years ago, is composed of children age 7 to 12 from several African nations, including Uganda, Kenya, Rwanda, South Africa, Nigeria and Ghana. Many of the children have lost one or both parents, and all of them are victims of extreme poverty.

The choir has released a number of recordings over the years, and has performed at major events and venues around the world, including the British House of Commons, the Pentagon and the Palais des Beaux Arts in Brussels, Belgium.

It also has recorded songs for the soundtracks of major motion pictures, including Oprah Winfrey’s “Beloved,” “Hotel Rwanda” and “Blood Diamond.”

Tickets are $25 for VIP seating, $15 for general admission and $5 for youths age 5 to 12.

In addition to the concert, the choir will perform at a special presentation for students at the Chaney School of Visual & Performing Arts during its visit.
