The Hess Corp., a global independent energy company, has established a scholarship for engineering students at Youngstown State University.

“We want to thank the Hess Corporation for their generosity in establishing a scholarship that will help our students pursue and achieve their academic and professional goals,” said Martin Abraham, YSU interim provost.

Abraham and Greg Sturrus, interim dean of the YSU College of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics, accepted an $8,000 gift from the company to initiate the Hess Corporation Scholarship.

“Quality engineers are the future of our industry’s workforce, and this scholarship is an investment in our youth and future,” said Rob Williams, Hess manager of operations. “Supporting education is a major initiative for Hess and is a key part of our values as a company.”

The scholarship is designed to encourage and support students pursuing a degree in civil, mechanical, systems, electrical and civil and construction engineering.

The scholarship also is available to nontraditional students, displaced workers, returning to college to regain employment. The scholarship is available to residents of Jefferson, Harrison, Belmont and Guernsey counties.
