Gunshots end Ohio University Halloween party

ATHENS, Ohio (AP) — Police say the annual Halloween street party at Ohio University ended abruptly when someone fired gunshots into the air.

Athens police said they shut down the party just after 2 a.m. Sunday when at least two shots were fired into the air during a fight on Court Street.

No injuries were reported, but it led to a search of city areas and university residences throughout the night. A residence hall was cleared and searched as a precaution.

Athens police Chief Tom Pyle said officers found a weapon but have not arrested a suspect.

The city reported at least 64 arrests during the annual event that typically draws thousands of costumed partiers to the Uptown district, according to The Athens Messenger.
