DeLuca re-elected to board of SWCD

CANFIELD

Mahoning Soil & Water Conservation District announced that Richard DeLuca of Struthers was elected for another three-year term starting January 2015.

DeLuca retired as Struthers water pollution control manager in 2010.

He is an environmental consultant for the Village of Lowellville, Mahoning Township in Pennsylvania and a few local businesses. He is chairman of the district’s board.

Neighborhood Strategy plans focus of meeting

The city of Youngstown and Youngstown Neighborhood Development Corp. will host a citywide meeting to present Neighborhood Strategy plans at 6:30 p.m. Nov. 12 in the community room at the Covelli Centre, 229 E. Front St.

Rabies shot clinic set at Oakhill on Saturday

YOUNGSTOWN

The Youngstown City Health District will sponsor a rabies shot clinic for cats, ferrets and dogs from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday in the Oakhill Renaissance Place parking deck, 345 Oak Hill Ave. Veterinarian services are being donated by Dr. Lisa Kurtz. Cost for each rabies shot is $6 per animal. Pet owners are asked to have cats and ferrets in a cage and dogs on a leash.

EEOC to visit NAACP

YOUNGSTOWN

The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission’s mobile-outreach center will visit the Youngstown unit of the NAACP, 16 Wick Ave., Suite 721, downtown Youngstown, from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Friday to accept complaints of employment discrimination based on race, religion, sex, national origin, age (40 and older), disability or retaliation.

The EEOC considers retaliation the firing or discipline of a worker who complained about job discrimination to the commission. The unit prefers appointments, but walk-ins are welcome. Call the local office at 330-782-9777, or email naacpyoungstown@yahoo.com.

Economist to lecture

YOUNGSTOWN

Eric Chiang, author of “Core Economics,” will give a presentation at 3:30 p.m. today in Room 1112 of Williamson Hall at Youngstown State University. The topic is “Outsmarting Your Opponent, Using Game Theory in Everyday Situations.” The lecture is free, open to the public and part of the YSU Economics Club’s meeting.

Chiang earned a bachelor’s degree in cconomics at the University of Nevada Las Vegas and master’s and doctorate degrees in economics at the University of Florida.

In 2009, Chiang was recipient of FAU’s highest teaching award, the Distinguished Teacher of the Year. He received the Stewart Distinguished Professorship awarded by the College of Business. He has published 25 articles in peer-reviewed journals on a range of subjects including technology spillovers, intellectual property rights, telecommunications, and health care.
