SENIOR SIDELIGHTS


A Gathering Place Senior Day Event will take place from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Nov. 10 at Lord of Life Lutheran Church, 550 N. Broad St., Canfield. There will be chair exercises. Guardian Angels of Ohio, a volunteer guardianship program of Trumbull County Probate Court, is looking for new volunteers. Angel volunteers receive training to become advocates who reach out as friends to seniors who may need a friendly phone call, a visit in a nursing home, or a visit at home. Angels also are involved in planning special events for seniors such as health fairs and Make a Difference Day projects. Senior Independence Center, 1110 Fifth Ave., Youngstown, has planned the following activities (call 330-744-5071 for reservations for all classes and events): Monday, needlecraft at 10 a.m., bridge at 1 p.m., Drums Alive at 2:30 and community fun day at Boardman Park; Tuesday, Brush, Knife and Needle Club at 10 a.m. and beginner and intermediate bridge at noon; Wednesday, computer classes at 9 and 11 a.m., watercolors at 10, tap class at noon, 500 bid card club and Chef’s Table cooking demonstration at 1 p.m. and line dancing at 1:30; Thursday, woodcarvers at 9 a.m., Halloween party at 11:30, exercise at noon, watch our weight at 1 p.m. and Texas Hold’em at 2; Friday, Wii bowling at 10 a.m., card and board games at noon, movie matinee at 1 p.m. and cornhole at 2.
