African Children’s Choir to perform Nov. 13

ACTION will present the African Children’s Choir in concert at 7 p.m. Nov. 13 at Edward W. Powers Auditorium.

The African Children’s Choir, founded 30 years ago, is a large choir comprised of children age 7 to 12 from several African nations. Since its inception, the choir has included children from Uganda, Kenya, Rwanda, South Africa, Nigeria and Ghana.

Many of the children have lost one or both parents to poverty-related diseases, and all of them are victims of extreme poverty.

The choir has released a number of recordings over the years and has performed at major events and venues around the world, including the British House of Commons, the Pentagon and the Palais des Beaux Arts in Brussels, Belgium.

The choir as also recorded songs for the soundtracks of major motion pictures including Oprah Winfrey’s “Beloved,” “Hotel Rwanda” and “Blood Diamond.”

The choir also will perform at a special presentation for students of the Chaney School of Visual & Performing Arts.

Tickets are $25 for VIP seating, $15 for general admission and $5 for youths age 5 to 12.
