A slew of biographies and memoirs will be hitting book store shelves this fall. Here is a sampling:

v “Charlie Chaplin”: by Peter Ackroyd (Nan A. Talese $26, 304 pages; on sale Tuesday): Ackroyd offers a relatively brief and to-the-point look at Chaplain’s personal life and times, with plenty of amusing anecdotes.

v “But Seriously”: by John McEnroe (Little, Brown, $28, 400 pages; Tuesday): The former “bad boy” of tennis offers a frank remembrance of his career and private life.

v “My Heart Is a Drunken Compass”: by Domingo Martinez (Globe Pequot, $27, 320 pages; Nov. 4): Martinez’s sequel to “The Boy Kings of Texas,” a memoir about growing up in the border town of Brownsville, Texas.

v “True Love”: by Jennifer Lopez (Celebra, $30, 288 pages; Nov. 4): The singer-dancer details her marriages, divorces and other personal challenges, and the lessons she has learned.

v “Watch Me”: by Anjelica Huston (Scribner, $28, 400 pages; Nov. 11): In intimate and often funny style, the Academy Award-winning actress (“Prizzi’s Honor,” 1985) details her glory years in Hollywood, her longtime relationship with actor Jack Nicholson, and her dealings with many of Hollywood’s top directors.

“The Simpsons Treehouse of Horror” marathon (noon, FXX): Enjoy 12 hours of twisted Halloween tales from the Springfield gang.

“Death Comes to Pemberley” (9 p.m., PBS): In P.D. James’ enticing mash-up of period drama and whodunit, Mr. Darcy (Matthew Rhys) and Elizabeth (Anna Maxwell) are six years into their marriage when a murder implicating the caddish Mr. Wickham (Matthew Goode) rocks their palatial country estate. As the thrilling two-parter unfolds, dark secrets are exposed and a scandal mounts, threatening all the Darcys hold dear.

“Boardwalk Empire” (9 p.m., HBO): We can only imagine what the body count will be when “Boardwalk Empire” ends its distinguished run tonight. Will Nucky (Steve Buscemi) survive the all-out war he’s been waging?

Mom and son event at Boardman Park

Boardman

Boardman Park’s Mom and Son Date “Knight” will be Nov. 14 and Nov. 15, from 6 to 8 p.m. both nights, at Lariccia Family Community Center. Mothers can celebrate an evening with their son eating, dancing and making crafts. The boys (age 4-8) can dress as their favorite superhero or in nice attire. Tickets are available at the park office weekdays between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., and online at boardmanpark.com. Prices are $20 per couple and $5 for each additional child ($18 and $5 for Boardman residents). Reservations are required.
