‘You and the Law’ forum set Tuesday

YOUNGSTOWN

City residents are invited to attend a community forum on “You and the Law: What to do when stopped by the police” from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at Holy Trinity Missionary Baptist Church, 505 Parkcliffe Ave.

Presentations will be made by Black Knights Police Association members; Jimmy Hughes, retired Youngstown police chief; Anita Davis, retired city detective; and Atty. Kim Akins.

The forum will include discussion on the roles of different law-enforcement agencies, citizens’ rights and responsibilities when they are stopped by police, and how to protest the conduct of law-enforcement officials.

Assaults at agency

WARREN

Two Trumbull County Children Services employees reported being assaulted by a 17-year-old male at the agency Wednesday morning.

The male was taken by police to the Trumbull County Juvenile Justice Center as a result of the 10:20 a.m. incident, which occurred at the agency offices, 2282 Reeves Road NE.

The employees said the male became combative and threw elbows toward the victims, who were trying to restrain him. One of the employees fell backward, hitting her head on the wall, causing a two-inch laceration. She was taken by ambulance to ValleyCare Trumbull Memorial Hospital for stitches.

Fowler gets grant

The Fowler Township Police Department has received a $65,000 Ohio Traffic Safety Office grant to host the Trumbull County Safe Communities program for the fiscal year that began Oct. 1.

Michael Currington, Fowler Township police chief, said focus areas will be traffic safety, seat-belt use, distracted-driving education, and sober-driving education.

BELOIT

Damascus Elementary School, 14405 Pricetown Road, will host Harvest Day at the school from 4 to 8 p.m. Saturday.

The event will include hay rides, a bonfire, food, games, a “mad scientist” room, and trick-or-treating throughout the building.

Each room will have a different fall time theme. There will also be a haunted mansion set up on the stage. Parents and adult community members get in free. The charge for students is $1.

WARREN

Signature HealthCARE of Warren will host a Fall Fun Fest from 3 to 4:30 p.m. Sunday at its facility at 2473 North Road NE.

Weather permitting, the event will be at the main parking lot; otherwise, it will be moved to the facility’s main dining room.

The festival will include musical entertainment by country band Sarah Warner and Friends, as well as a petting zoo, face painting, kid’s crafts, clowns and apple cider. Children are welcome to wear costumes. A Superman character will take photos in the facility’s pumpkin patch. Guests are encouraged take mittens to the event which will be donated to a local family shelter.
