A summary of recent criminal activity in Hubbard, Liberty and Girard:
HUBBARD
Oct. 14
Theft/criminal mischief: A license plate was removed from a trailer in the 1100 block of Waugh Drive. Also, a vehicle was found with a punctured tire.
Oct. 15
Theft: A School Street man noticed $30 missing from his car.
Oct. 16
Arrest: Officers responded to possible threats on Mock Street, where they took 38-year-old John A. Chiodo into custody. Chiodo, of East Liberty Street, Hubbard, was wanted on a telecommunications-harassment warrant.
Menacing: A teacher at Hubbard High School, 250 Hall Ave., reported finding two threatening letters on her desk.
Oct. 19
Arrest: Police on School Street stopped a vehicle with smoke coming from one of its tires before charging the driver, 39-year-old Jeffrey S. Lucas of Streetsboro, with operating a vehicle impaired. Lucas’ blood-alcohol count was 0.222, nearly three times the legal limit, a report showed.
LIBERTY
Oct. 16
Arrest: Officers who were dispatched to Walmart, 200 Goldie Road, for a possible shoplifting situation charged 23-year-old Zachary T. Soles with obstructing official business after alleging Soles, of Gertrude Avenue, Boardman, had provided a false name. He also was wanted on a probation-violation charge; in addition, a theft charge was pending against him and another person, a report stated.
Drugs: A traffic stop near Gypsy Lane resulted in misdemeanor charges of possession of drugs and drug-abuse instruments against 27-year-old James Thomas of Timberbrook Drive, Canfield. Thomas, who also was wanted on an Austintown warrant, had a hypodermic needle and a strip of Suboxone, a narcotic commonly used to treat moderate to severe chronic pain, police said.
Theft: An employee of a Belmont Avenue business noticed various personal papers missing from his vehicle while at work.
Oct. 17
Arrest: Campbell police handed Kevin W. Weaver, 42, of Union Ridge Road, Negley, to Liberty authorities. He was wanted on an outstanding township warrant.
Theft: A woman discovered a birth certificate and a Social Security card missing from her Rose Avenue home.
Vehicle theft: A $7,500 Kawasaki Ninja motorcycle was stolen in the 4100 block of Monticello Boulevard.
Theft: A Crews Hood Road woman reported a book of personal checks stolen.
Oct. 18
Burglary: To an apartment in the 2900 block of Oakland Drive through the front door. Among items stolen were two flat-screen TVs, an Xbox game system and 20 Xbox games, for a loss of $4,310.
Citation: Officers responded to Middle Drive regarding a woman possibly in distress before issuing a minor-misdemeanor citation charging 21-year-old Amanda M. Huffman of Pasadena Avenue, Youngstown, with disorderly conduct while intoxicated.
Aggravated menacing: A Laurel Avenue man reported a former acquaintance threatened over the phone to kill the accuser, his girlfriend and their infant daughter.
Oct. 19
Theft/criminal damaging: Authorities charged Derrick Stennis Jr., 23, of Roosevelt Drive, Liberty, with theft and criminal damaging after his girlfriend alleged he had stolen her debit cards and more than $100 from her. Stennis, who was wanted on four outstanding Youngstown Municipal Court warrants, also smashed the accuser’s cellphone, a report said.
Oct. 20
Auto theft: A 1993 Saturn vehicle was stolen in the 3000 block of Frederick Street.
Arrest: Youngstown police transferred custody of 24-year-old Aaron M. Reynolds to township authorities. Reynolds, of Euclid Boulevard, Liberty, was wanted on a contempt-of-court charge.
GIRARD
Oct. 17
Assault/theft: A Patricia Drive woman alleged her former boyfriend struck her several times in the face, chest and stomach, leaving a large bruise, during an argument about their relationship. The accuser also reported her $300 cellphone stolen.
Theft: A store owner reported that a suspicious woman cashed a check at his business, which raised the suspicions of several employees with an East Liberty Street doctor’s office that the woman might have stolen and cashed another person’s $648 paycheck.
Theft: A $200 electronic tablet was missing from a residence in the 500 block of Mosier Road.
Oct. 18
Trespassing: Officers charged 47-year-old Tracey Drvodelic of Poplar Street, Girard, with criminal trespassing after getting a report that a pickup truck was on a piece of land that belongs to Norfolk & Southern Railroad off U.S. Route 422. Drvodelic had no permission to be on the private property, police said.
Criminal mischief: Someone spray-painted a pole and a nearby structure at a stadium in the 200 block of South Highland Avenue and did an estimated $1,000 in damage.
Drug paraphernalia: Police responded to possible drug activity in the 100 block of East Second Street before handing a minor-misdemeanor citation to 21-year-old Andre L. Bowers Jr. charging him with possession of drug paraphernalia. Bowers, of Emma Street, Niles, had a suspected marijuana pipe in his vehicle, a report showed.
Oct. 19
Theft: An $800 industrial vacuum cleaner was stolen from a West Liberty Street insurance agency.
Menacing: A Trumbull Avenue couple told police that a man outside of their mobile home had been yelling at them in an apparent effort to initiate a confrontation.
Theft: Two headlights were removed from a car in the 800 block of Shannon Road.
Oct. 20
Harassment: A Park Avenue man said he’s received unwanted text messages, including accusations that he had stolen money.
Breaking and entering: Forty to 50 feet of copper was missing from the basement of a residence someone had entered in the 40 block of Hancock Street.
Burglary: Occurred in the 500 block of North St. Clair Avenue. Stolen were a 55-gallon fish tank and various children’s toys, for a $400 loss.
Oct. 21
Burglary: Took place in the 900 block of Beechwood Drive. Two firearms were stolen.
