Harvest Day planned at Damascus school

Damascus Elementary School, 14405 Pricetown Road, will host Harvest Day at the school from 4 to 8 p.m. Saturday.
The event will include hay rides, a bonfire, food, games, a “mad scientist” room, and trick-or-treating throughout the building.
Each room will have a different fall time theme. There also will be a haunted mansion set up on the stage. Parents and adult community members get in free. The charge for students is $1.
Petting zoo, clowns set for Fall Fun Fest
WARREN
Signature HealthCARE of Warren will host a Fall Fun Fest from 3 to 4:30 p.m. Sunday at its facility at 2473 North Road NE.
Weather permitting, the event will be at the main parking lot; otherwise, it will be moved to the facility’s main dining room.
The festival will include musical entertainment by country band Sarah Warner and Friends, as well as a petting zoo, face painting, kid’s crafts, clowns and apple cider. Children are welcome to wear costumes. A Superman character will take photos in the facility’s pumpkin patch.
Guests are encouraged to take mittens to the event to donate to a local family shelter.
Gadd sentenced for child rapes
MERCER, Pa.
David Gadd Jr., 29, of McClure Avenue in Youngstown was sentenced to life in prison with parole eligibility after 10 years Thursday after pleading guilty to three counts of rape and three counts of gross sexual imposition.
Gadd raped an 8-year-old girl three times in 2012 and had sexual contact with two other girls, age 10 and 7, over that same time period.
Ursuline Motherhouse gets grant for pool
CANFIELD
Mahoning Valley Hospital Foundation has awarded a $10,000 grant to the The Ursuline Center’s Motherhouse Pool Ministry Renovation Project.
Mike Senchak, foundation president and chief executive officer, made a presentation to the center’s board recently.
The grant supports a recently completed renovation project that replaced the pool’s roof and skylights and upgraded its HVAC and electrical needs. The center is at 4280 Shields Road.
Each week, the pool is used by about 800 people, said Sister Nancy Dawson, executive director of The Ursuline Center.
The center offers health and safety programs. Programs at the pool include swimming lessons for all ages.
Pumpkins to abound at dine, design event
MERCER, Pa.
Munnell Run Farm, 24 Avalon Court, Suite 300, is hosting a pumpkin-themed dine-and-design program from 9 to 11 a.m. Tuesday.
Bring a favorite fall-themed dish and recipe to share. A recipe book will be compiled for participants to take home.
Activities will include sampling treats and painting a mini-canvas of pumpkins with guest artist Lauren Sheridan.

2 arraigned in Warren
WARREN
Two men indicted Wednesday were arraigned Thursday in Trumbull County Common Pleas Court.
David R. Blackmon Jr., 47, is being held in the Trumbull County jail in lieu of $500,000 bond after pleading not guilty to murder.
Blackmon was arrested Wednesday in the Aug. 5 shooting death of Mitchell Pruitt, 50, who lived not far away from him on Deerfield Street SW.
Bond was set at $250,000 for Mark Thornsberry, 25, of Wilson Avenue in Niles, charged with involuntary manslaughter, accused of giving a fatal dose of heroin to a Joshua J. Robbins, 25, of Mineral Ridge, before Robbins died of an overdose. Thornsberry entered a not-guilty plea.
