ASSOCIATIONS

American Association of University Women, Youngstown Branch, will meet Nov. 1 at Wittenauer’s Gallery, 122 S. Main St. in Poland. Attendees should arrive at 9:30 a.m. to order breakfast from the menu. After the business meeting, Ralph Malmer will present a photographic safari of Tanzania. There will be a white elephant sale. Mahoning Retired Teachers Association will meet Nov. 12 at Antone’s Banquet Center, 8578 Market St., Boardman. The social period will begin at 11 a.m., and lunch, at 11:45. Linda Vuletich will preside. Mike Kubitza and Milton Kochert will present a Veterans recognition program followed by the presentation of MRTA scholarships to YSU School of Education students by Scholarship Chairwoman Joyce Mistovich. This month’s community service will be donations for the Veterans Home, including socks, underwear, sweat pants and shirts. All area retired teachers are invited. LIBRARY FRIENDS

Friends of the Poland Library will meet Nov. 4. The program will be given by Ted Heineman and Dave Smith, local historians on the Baird Mitchell story. Many people know that the former Poland Seminary High School stadium on Cortland Street was named the Baird Mitchell Field, but they do not really know much about this local star athlete and war hero, who lived and grew up in Poland. There will be a coffee hour at 9:30 a.m. Hostesses will be Emma Eggleston, Marion Gillette, Mary Foldvary and Dee Ringer. The meeting is open to the public and new members are welcome.

POLITICAL CLUBS

Canfield Republican Women’s Club luncheon is set for noon Nov. 5 at A La Cart Restaurant, Lisbon Street in Canfield. The meal will be a turkey dinner with cranberry gelatin, sweet potatoes, green bean casserole and pumpkin pie. The cost is $12 per person. Our Lady of Perpetual Help Altar and Rosary Society will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday for the rosary, and the meeting will follow in the church hall.

St. Rose Quilting Group will meet at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the parish house.

Girard-Liberty Kiwanis will meet at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Golf Dome, 1300 N. State St., Girard.

D.A.R.E. Singles Group, which meets at Disciples Christian Church, 565 Boardman-Canfield Road, Boardman, has planned the following: Thursday, Halloween party at the church, 7:30 p.m.

SUPPORT GROUPS

Alzheimer Network Family Support Group will meet at 1:30 p.m. Monday at Easter Seals Adult Day Care Center, 721 Boardman-Poland Road, Boardman, and at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at Emmanuel Lutheran Education Building, 251 S. Broadway Ave., Salem. These meetings are open to caregivers and family members of a loved one living with Alzheimer’s or other form of dementia. There is no charge for attendance.
