Wilson inducted to Hall of Fame

Adriane Blewitt Wilson, a 1998 graduate of Boardman High School and 2004 Ashland graduate was inducted into the Ashland University Hall of Fame on Oct. 11.

The induction ceremony took place at the John C. Myers Convocation Center in the morning and the inductees were also introduced at halftime of the Ashland football game. Wilson was inducted on her first year eligible as she was a 13-time All-American winning seven national championships and was the national runner-up six times. She is the Ashland school record holder in the discus and indoor and outdoor shot put.

Wilson is the Division II NCAA record holder indoors and outdoors in the shot and a former record holder in the discus. She was twice honored as Ashland University’s Student-Athlete of the Year in 2001 and 2003. She was also featured in Sports Illustrated’s Faces In The Crowd.

Wilson competed at the United States Olympic Trials three times in 2002, 2008 and 2012. She and her husband, Joe, live in Irmo, S.C., where she is a personal coach at Athlete’s Arena. Wilson is the daughter of Rae Blewitt of Boardman.

At Ashland, she was coached by USA four-time Olympic athlete and present Ashland head coach Jud Logan.

New basketball tournament announced

The first Canfield Cardinals fifth- and sixth-grade boys basketball tournament will take place on Dec. 6, 7, 13 and 14 at Canfield Village Middle School. This tournament is limited to 16 teams in each grade level and the cost is $125 with a four game guarantee. BGMS football defeated

The Boardman Glenwood football team lost a hard fought game at Warren 24-14 on Oct. 14. Manny Perez led the scoring with touchdown runs of 30- and 4-yards while Che’ Trevena added a two-point conversion. The defense played hard throughout the game with sacks coming from Tim Fowler and Nick Torres.

The weather is getting colder and it’s now winter sports season. Neighbors wants to be there every step of the way. If you’re a winter sports coach or the parent of an athlete, we need you help. In order to get teams and players the recognition they deserve, we want to showcase them in our pages. We can only do that if you commit to sending us game reports and photos each week. If you send it, it will get in.
