Boardman boys have fourth place finish

Boardman’s Nick Long and Ethan Schwendeman led the Spartans to a fourth place finish at this year’s Sim Earich Invitational Oct. 11 improving the varsity’s record to 72-69 for the 2014 season. Boardman was outscored by AAC rival Howland, while Canal Fulton Northwest was second. St. Ignatius finished third while AAC rival Lakeview finished behind the Spartans in fifth place.

Long was fifth overall in a personal best time of 16:54 while Schwendeman was sixth with a personal best time as well of 16:58. Also scoring for Boardman was sophomore Nathaniel Ams with a personal best time of 17:31 for 16th place-which also earned him the final BW-3 ‘Runner of the Week’ for 2014, senior Juan Santiago in 25th place with a time of 17:55, and sophomore Chris Butler in 36th place with a personal best time of 18:14.

“[I’m] very pleased with the effort,” said Spartan head coach John Phillips. “We are getting better at just the right time of the season.”

Setting a new personal best at the Trumbull Fairgrounds course were Long, Schwendeman, Ams, Butler, sophomore Nick Digiacomo at 18:14 and freshman Matt Mordian at 19:25.
