3 Calif. sheriff's deputies, bystander shot

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) — A sheriff's spokeswoman says an assailant has shot two sheriff's deputies in Northern California after shooting an officer and a bystander in a neighboring county.

Placer County sheriff's spokeswoman Dena Erwin tells The Associated Press that two of her department's deputies were shot by the same assailant who is suspected of shooting a deputy in Sacramento County earlier today.

She says a woman who was a passenger in the vehicle with the assailant has been taken into custody.

Sacramento County spokeswoman Sgt. Lisa Bowman says the suspect earlier shot a civilian when that person refused to give up the keys to a vehicle.

Bowman said the first deputy was approaching a suspicious occupied vehicle in a parking lot when he was shot.

The condition of the deputies was not immediately known.
