Man indicted for shooting at Hubbard cop

WARREN

Jeffrey L. Irby, 26, of Youngstown and Fort Wayne, Ind., accused of shooting at a Hubbard police officer Oct. 14 has been indicted by a Trumbull County grand jury on six charges, including felonious assault.

Irby has been held in the Trumbull County jail in lieu of $2.5 million bond since the incident, which occurred on Hager Street after the officer chased him a couple blocks from a traffic stop.

Irby fired three to seven shots, but none of them hit the officer, who ducked for cover, police said.

Irby is likely to be arraigned on the charges later this week. If convicted, he could get more than 15 years in prison.

Also, David R. Blackmon Jr., 47, is being held in the Trumbull County jail in lieu of $500,000 bond after pleading not guilty this morning in Trumbull County Common Pleas Court to a murder charge.

Blackmon was arrested Wednesday at a home on Deerfield Street SW in the Aug. 5 shooting death of Mitchell Pruitt, 50, who lived not far away from Blackmon on Deerfield Street.
