The Centers for Hearing Care, 126 York Ave., is seeking local hearing-impaired candidates who are in financial crisis for the third-annual “Hearing for the Holidays” mission.

Potential candidates must contact Centers for Hearing Care before Dec. 1. Candidates receive custom-made and fitted hearing aids, audiological testing, a limited supply of batteries and education and instruction on operation and care.

Candidates can be of any age and are carefully selected based primarily on financial need. There will be 25 local people selected for the program. If you or someone you know is hearing impaired and in financial crisis, call 330-779-8090.

Hollywood Gaming at Mahoning Valley Race Course still is in need of racetrack workers for the Nov. 24 opening of the 1-mile thoroughbred race track.

There are approximately 20 to 25 positions open for the starting-gate crew, track maintenance, which includes tractor and vehicle drivers, skilled tradesmen — mechanics, plumbers and carpenters — and general laborers. Anyone interested should go to www.hollywoodmahoningvalley.com/careers.

New Gabe’s store

Gabriel Bros. Inc., a fashion retailer, is unveiling a new Gabe’s store in Niles. This location will be the company’s 17th store in Ohio and is the ninth store to open in the past 12 months. The new store has 65,000 square feet and is at 5772 Youngstown-Warren Road.

In September, Gabe’s hired more than 170 people to fill leadership positions as well as supervisory, customer service, cashier and stocking roles.

A grand opening will take place at 8 a.m. Nov. 1.

New K&S website

K&S Millwrights, on Knox School Road, recently launched a new website at www.ksmillwright.com. This website outlines many of the products and services K&S sells, such as grain bins and material-handling equipment, and explains the benefits and technical aspects of many of them. It also includes a listing of used equipment in stock for sale.

K&S Millwrights sells and services grain storage, grain drying, augers and material-handling equipment throughout Ohio, Indiana, New York and central and western Pennsylvania.

SS benefits to rise

WASHINGTON

Come January, nearly 60 million Social Security recipients will get benefit increases averaging $20 a month, the third-straight year of historically small pay increases. The 1.7 percent cost-of-living adjustment, or COLA, will also boost government benefits for millions of disabled veterans, federal retirees and people drawing disability payments for the poor.

The government announced the benefit increase Wednesday.
