POLICE CALLS
A summary of recent criminal activity in Poland and Boardman townships:
POLAND
Oct. 12
Theft/criminal damaging: A Manor Avenue man reported damage to his vehicle, from which about $35 had been stolen.
BOARDMAN
Oct. 15
Bad check: A Glenwood Avenue man told police he received a fraudulent $1,450 check in the mail in response to having advertised a stainless-steel item for sale on eBay.
Breaking and entering: Someone broke into a home in the 700 block of Oakridge Drive and removed 60 feet of copper piping valued at $2,000.
Theft: A loss-prevention official with Sears in Southern Park Mall reportedly identified a shoplifter who had stolen clothing in August from the business.
Harassment: A worker for a Boardman-Poland Road restaurant said a customer who had accidentally left a pair of expensive prescription eyeglasses called demanding the eatery pay for the item while speaking in an aggressive manner.
Identity theft: A Tamarisk Trail man learned that someone had tried to file an unemployment-compensation claim with his personal information.
Theft: A man stole four or five $30 DVDs from Giant Eagle, 476 Boardman-Canfield Road.
Misuse of a credit card: A Canfield man learned someone in the 8500 block of Market Street entered his daughter’s car, stole her debit card and made four unauthorized charges with it totaling $281.
Theft: A woman in her mid-30s reportedly stole five items from Dollar General, 859 E. Midlothian Blvd.
Vandalism: A Shields Road woman told police that a man with whom she was in a heated argument tossed a cellphone and broke a front window to her apartment.
Oct. 16
Arrest: Authorities at the Trumbull County Jail took 28-year-old Scott C. Harker into custody on a theft warrant after Harker, of Hyde Avenue, Niles, was accused of stealing four purses Feb. 24 from T.J. Maxx, 717 Boardman-Poland Road.
Breaking and entering: Someone entered a home in the 90 block of Woodrow Avenue before removing $2,000 worth of copper plumbing.
Criminal damaging: Two overhead-garage-door panels were damaged at a residence in the 100 block of Scotland Avenue.
Domestic violence: Authorities booked 22-year-old Ronelle M. Randolph of Glenwood Avenue, Boardman, after his girlfriend alleged that during an argument Oct. 14, Randolph pushed her against the back of a toilet, then struck her head and face.
Menacing: A Glendale Avenue woman reported a man threatened her with bodily harm after she had asked him to move a truck parked in her space.
Identity fraud: An Austintown man discovered someone had stolen his credit card and used it to make a $2,505 fraudulent purchase at a Southern Park Mall store.
Breaking and entering: Someone broke into a garage in the 4000 block of Hillman Way, then removed a $200 AM/FM/compact-disc player from a vehicle inside.
Stolen property: A 14-year-old township boy faced charges of receiving stolen property and possession of alcohol after an officer said he confronted the teen in a wooded area adjacent to Giant Eagle, 476 Boardman-Poland Road, and alleged the boy had stolen two bottles of liquor from the business.
Theft: Chanel Fountain, 18, of Taft Avenue, Youngstown, along with a 16-year-old city girl, faced theft charges after several pairs of jeans, a pair of boots and other items were taken from Sears.
Arrest: Officers took into custody Arnetta J. Jones of Park Street, Youngstown, after conducting a vehicle-registration check and traffic stop in the 5300 block of Market Street. The 51-year-old Jones was accused of failing to appear in court.
Felonious assault: An Aylesboro Avenue woman alleged another woman with whom she has ongoing problems intentionally drove toward and struck the accuser’s left leg with a vehicle, then tried several more times to hit her.
Identity fraud: A Creston Drive woman reported she and her husband were victims after someone had fraudulently filed state and federal income-tax forms with their personal information.
Theft: Police charged Jessica L. Smerdell, 34, of West Third Street, Niles, and 36-year-old Doris I. Morse of Roberts Avenue, Warren, with stealing a bracelet and roughly $203 worth of clothing from Sears. Smerdell also was wanted on a Trumbull County warrant charging failure to appear in court.
Stolen property: Two Youngstown girls, both 17, were accused of stealing six articles of clothing worth $190 from the J.C. Penney store in Southern Park Mall and were released to the custody of an aunt.
Theft: A man rented but failed to return a $1,623 steam-cleaning machine to Rental Corral, 4627 Market St.
Theft: A motorist left a Get Go station, 6911 South Ave., without paying for $67.32 worth of gasoline.
Oct. 17
Aggravated menacing: The owner of a West Boulevard business reported that a man threatened to harm him during a dispute about a painting.
Arrest: Police on Market Street pulled over and arrested 22-year-old Stephanie A. Woon of Rockdale Avenue, Boardman, and charged her with operating a vehicle impaired. Woon’s blood-alcohol level was 0.152, nearly twice the legal limit, a report showed.
Burglary: To an apartment in the 100 block of Shields Road, from which a 32-inch flat-screen TV and various keys were stolen.
Auto theft: A 1980 Mercury Marquis was stolen in the 5400 block of Glenwood Avenue.
Identity fraud: An elderly Halbert Avenue woman reported someone claiming she had won a $2.8 million sweepstakes drawing told the accuser she first needed to send a $3,500 check, along with her Social Security and driver’s-license numbers, to receive her winnings. The woman also was informed that because of a supposed error, she would need to send a second check, though she learned it was a scam and lost no money, a police report said.
Misuse of a credit card: A Claybourne Avenue man found out his stolen card had been used to withdraw $400 using his personal-identification number.
Oct. 18
Aggravated menacing: A Squirrel Hill Court woman told officers a man called threatening to harm and kill her.
Theft: A Boardman boy, 15, was accused of stealing nine pieces of merchandise, including two candy bars, from Dollar General, 271 Boardman-Canfield Road.
Arrest: A traffic stop near Southern Boulevard resulted in the arrest of 19-year-old Christopher J. Adams of Afton Avenue, Boardman, who was wanted on a Youngstown Municipal Court bench warrant charging failure to appear in court.
Burglary: Authorities filed an aggravated-burglary charge against Darius R. Holcomb, 28, who listed Youngstown addresses on East Lucius Avenue and Pineview Street. Holcomb’s former girlfriend, of Alburn Drive, alleged he had followed her home, entered her residence without permission and assaulted the accuser during an argument.
Criminal damaging: A car in the 7400 block of Market Street was found with a dented hood. The damage estimate was $500.
Theft: An official with Hair Depot, 4026 Market St., alleged that an employee has used other people’s purchases toward her own bonus-points card, resulting in about $1,500 worth of improperly obtained store credit.
Theft: A man discovered a $3,000 ring, a decorative bottle and money missing from his Green Bay Drive home.
Misuse of a credit card: A Stratford Road man noticed five fraudulent transactions totaling $605 to his checking account.
Theft: A 17-year-old Youngstown girl was accused of stealing a necklace and a bracelet from the J.C. Penney store.
Theft: Jaclyn Lanzaro, 28, who listed addresses on East Midlothian Boulevard in Youngstown and West Boulevard in Boardman, was charged in the theft of a $38 pair of headlights from Walmart, 1300 Doral Drive.
Oct. 19
Assault: A Campbell man sustained several minor injuries after having been struck while in the 800 block of Moyer Avenue.
Attempted burglary: A man returned to his Paxton Road residence and saw that his front-door lock had been tampered with.
Theft: Authorities charged 20-year-old Bryan W. Sheely with theft after alleging Sheely, of Carrousel Woods Drive, New Middletown, had stolen five Nintendo Wii remote-control devices from Walmart.
Theft: Two 14-year-old Youngstown boys were accused of stealing about $121 worth of property from Spencer Gifts in Southern Park Mall.
Theft: A Poland woman reported her wallet stolen while at a business in the 300 block of McClurg Road.
Theft: A man reported the rear license-plate had been removed from his vehicle somewhere in the township.
