Ohio group removes illegally placed campaign signs

COLUMBUS (AP) — A group of people in central Ohio say they’re tired of seeing politician’s campaign signs in public places and they’re taking them down.

The Columbus Dispatch reports a group that calls itself the Columbus Sign Ninjas is removing campaign signs from inappropriate places as the election approaches. Under Ohio law, signs can’t be placed in the public right of way, including along city streets and freeways.

The 275-member unofficial group, which began its efforts in 2012, uses social media to report signs. Some candidates have apologized on the group’s Facebook page for their sign placement.

An Ohio Department of Transportation spokesman says highway workers will remove signs if they blatantly obstruct vision or create a hazard, but they don’t have time to take down all political signs.
