Woman pleads guilty in assault case

YOUNGSTOWN

A woman who police say was pregnant when she tried to run over another pregnant woman in April pleaded guilty Monday to several charges in Mahoning County Common Pleas Court.

Sentencing has been set for Jan. 8 for Takia Wright, 22, of West Heights, who entered guilty pleas before Judge John Durkin on charges of felonious assault, child endangering and aggravated vehicular assault for an April 26 attack on a woman at the Valley View apartments.

She also pleaded guilty to a felony theft charge in an unrelated case. She will be sentenced in that case on Jan. 8 as well.

At the time of the attack Wright was seven months pregnant and the victim also was pregnant. The same man fathered both children, police said.

Reports said the pair were arguing in the parking lot where Wright rammed her car into the victim’s car that had one of the victim’s children inside. When the victim got out of her car and stood in the roadway to keep Wright from leaving, Wright ran her over, reports said.

Wright drove away but came back as police were gathering information at the scene, reports said. Wright had three of her children in the car and one of them had to be taken to St. Elizabeth Health Center for treatment because the child suffered head injuries when Wright rammed the other woman’s car, reports said.

The other woman was also treated at St. Elizabeth, reports said.
