Bad roads, misplaced priorities seen in Boardman, Struthers

After last winter’s inclem- ent weather we were bombarded with potholes. Although some streets have been resurfaced, others have not.

A few roads that come to mind are Mathews Road, Southern Boulevard and Indianola Road in Boardman. These are very heavily traveled and, although they have been patched and patched, it does not make it any better to drive on. Mathews from Southern to Youngstown-Poland Road is terrible. The only section that was repaved was near Southern.

Southern Boulevard in front of Home Depot will bring your car to a snail’s pace and Indianola Road from South Avenue to Southern is the same way. But yet the other day I saw Afton Avenue was repaved. Why? This road is a secondary road and was not in bad shape.

On the subject of roads not being taken care of, Struthers has had numerous calls to the mayor’s office and the safety service director concerning repainting of lines on two roads in the city. One was on Route 616 (Bridge Street ) in front of the post office at the bottom of the hill and the other on Lowellville Road in front of the park. Both of these roads have left-turn lanes.

On our first contact we were informed it would be done immediately. Last call we were told paint had to be ordered.

Finally, after months had passed, the first was painted days ago. The other, to the best of my knowledge, remains unpainted. So be careful if you are in that turning lane; you might get the front end of your car clipped courtesy of the city of Struthers.
