The Ursuline Sisters of Youngstown will celebrate Sunday as Sister Carole Suhar marks her golden jubilee (50-year anniversary).

The Sisters have issued invitations to family and friends for a celebratory Mass at 1 p.m. at the Motherhouse Chapel, which will be followed by dinner in the Motherhouse dining room.

Sister Carole Suhar, OSU, was born in Youngstown on April 21, 1945, to the late Steve and Margaret Suhar, and was a parishioner at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, Austintown.

After graduating from Ursuline High School, Sister Carole earned a bachelor’s degree in education from Youngstown State University and a master’s degree in elementary administration from Purdue University.

On Sept. 8, 1963, Sister Carole entered the Ursuline Sisters of Youngstown.

Sister Carole has ministered in education for 41 years, and currently ministers as an intervention specialist at St. Rose School, Girard, where she has worked since 2010.

Sister Carole’s ministries have included serving as a principal of St. Rose, St. Nicholas School in Struthers, St. Luke School in Boardman, and St. Mary and Joseph School in Newton Falls, and teaching at St. Columba and Sacred Heart schools in Youngstown and St. Nicholas.

She also has ministered as the learning-center coordinator at Ursuline High School.

She is active as a Eucharistic Minister and Lector at Holy Name of Jesus/Our Lady of Sorrows Parish, Youngstown.

86th anniversary

Beulah Baptist Church, 570 Sherwood Ave., will celebrate its 86th anniversary with a program, open to the public, at 4 p.m. Sunday.

Senior Pastor and Bishop of Victory Christian Center, David L. Thomas will begin a four-part series Sunday at the Coitsville Campus, 3899 McCartney Road, titled “Are We Living In the Last Days.” Services will take place at 8:30 and 11 a.m. and are open to the community. Good Hope fall fest

BOARDMAN

Good Hope Lutheran Church, Homestead Drive and Southern Boulevard, will host a fall festival and animal blessing for the entire community next Saturday. The animal blessing will take place from noon to 1 p.m., followed by the festival until 4 p.m.

A straw maze will be constructed that morning along with pumpkin painting, hot apple cider and face painting. The story of Jonah and the Whale will take place at 2 and 3 p.m. If the weather does not cooperate, all activities (except the maze) will still take place downstairs in Fellowship Hall.

Canfield Christian Church will present a six-week exploration of our faith and discover the answer to the question “What On Earth Am I Here For?” Small group studies are available Saturday at 8 a.m., Wednesday at 10 a.m. and 7 p.m., and Sunday at 6:30 p.m. Also available are youth study Wednesday at 7 p.m. and children’s study Sunday morning. On Sunday, Bishop Mildred “Bonnie” Hines, first and only female to be elected to the episcopacy in the 218-year history of the African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church, will visit Youngstown as the speaker for the annual Women’s Day Celebration at Price Memorial A.M.E. Zion Church, 920 Dryden Ave. Host Pastor is Rev. Dr. William C. King Jr. Morning service begins at 10:45 a.m. Dinner will be served after service.

First Friday Club Speaker’s Luncheon Series will present Massimo Faggioli, Ph.D., on Nov. 6 at Antone’s Banquet Center on Market Street. Faggioli is professor of theology, University of St. Thomas, St. Paul, Minn.
