Roofer dies from injuries after fall

YOUNGSTOWN

A roofer for Roofrite Co. has died from injuries he suffered while on the job. Brandon Ware, 27, fell through a roof at 555 N. Meridian Road and landed on his head Oct. 7.

Ware died four days later as a result of blunt-force injuries of the head, according to a report from the Mahoning County Coroner’s office. The investigation into the matter is ongoing.

A company spokesman, reached Friday, declined to comment until the investigation was complete.

AVI participates in White House event

AVI Foodsystems Inc. participated in the Fall White House Kitchen Garden Harvest on Tuesday. Kevin Needham, AVI resident director at South Euclid Lyndhurst Schools, accompanied five students selected from Greenview Elementary School to join first lady Michelle Obama in harvesting vegetables from the White House’s kitchen garden.

The students then joined Obama for a healthful dinner. Greenview Elementary was chosen to participate in the event, due to its involvement in the Farm-to-School program.

Natural-gas aid

Dominion East Ohio reminds customers of available company payment plans and government energy-assistance programs designed to help them maintain winter natural-gas service.

The Public Utilities Commission of Ohio has issued its annual Winter Reconnection Order, which allows any Dominion East Ohio residential customer to maintain service between Monday and April 15.

Under the order, customers who have had service disconnected for nonpayment can have their service restored by paying the amount they owe Dominion, or $175, whichever is less.

A reconnect fee of $33, plus applicable taxes, also will be billed to the account if the service has been disconnected. The plan can be used only once.

Goldsteins to have ribbon-cutting

Boardman

The official ribbon-cutting of Goldsteins Furniture’s new 50,000-square-foot store at 340 Boardman- Poland Road will take place at 10 a.m. Friday.

Situated adjacent to Goldstein’s current Boardman location, the two stores will offer more than 100,000 square feet of furniture, mattresses and accessories.

Energy conference

COLUMBUS

Governors, regulators and industry experts from oil- and gas-producing states across the country will meet at the Hyatt Regency here Sunday through Tuesday to discuss the responsible development of the nation’s energy resources at the Interstate Oil and Gas Compact Commission’s annual conference.

The theme of this year’s conference is “Doing it Right: Better Cooperation, Better Results.”
