DUBUQUE, IOWA

Gordie Green scored a goal two minutes into overtime to lift the Dubuque Fighting Saints past the Youngstown Phantoms 5-4 in a USHL game on Friday at Mystique Ice Center.

Dylan Gambrell scored two goals and Dubuque rallied from an early 2-0 deficit.

Kiefer Sherwood had a goal and an assist for the Phantoms, while Kevin Conley, Maxim Letunov and Taylor Best also scored.

Mancini a finalist for boxing Hall

NEW YORK

Former World Boxing Association lightweight champion Ray “Boom Boom” Mancini is a candidate for induction into the International Boxing Hall of Fame.

The Youngstown native went 29-5 with 23 KOs between 1979 and 1992.

Members of the Boxing Writers Association of America vote for IBHOF inductees, based on the candidate’s contributions to the sport of boxing.

The Class of 2015 will be announced in December.

Mancini, who was inducted into the World Boxing Hall of Fame in 2005, is one of 20 new names on the IBHOF’s “modern” ballot for 2015.

YSU volleyball keeps rolling

CLEVELAND

The Youngstown State volleyball team stayed hot offensively and won for the fourth straight match, beating rival Cleveland State in four sets on Friday evening at the Woodling Gymnasium. The set scores were 24-26, 25-22, 26-24, 25-15.

The Penguins (14-8, 5-2 Horizon League) are a half-game behind league-leading Milwaukee in the conference standings. Cleveland State is 10-10 overall and 3-4 in the conference.

Youngstown State posted a .295 attack percentage against the Vikings, who were holding opponents to a .177 mark over their first 19 matches.

Amateur MMA card set for Yankee Lake

BROOKFIELD

Yankee Lake will hold “Brawlroom 41,” a 10-bout amateur mixed martial arts cage fighting event tonight.

Cost is $25 at the door. Tickets can be picked at Yankee Lake store for $20 before 4 p.m.

Local fighters include Joe Safranko (Sharon) vs. John Hudson (West Virginia); Derek Lawerence (Cleveland) vs. Daniel Disalvo (Greenville); Ryan Shankle (Youngstown) vs. Brandon Jay (Clarion); Sean Foster (Dayton) vs. Mike Hice (Brookfield); Chris Araujo (Meadville) vs. Sean Cogswell (New Castle); Steve Mowry New Castle) vs. Shane Holbert (West Virginia), plus four more fights. Gates open at 6 p.m. and the fights start at 7:30.

Mavericks down LeBron, Cavaliers

CLEVELAND

Chandler Parsons and Jameer Nelson scored 19 points apiece and the Dallas Mavericks beat Cleveland 108-102 on Friday night, handing the Cavaliers their first loss of the preseason.

Dirk Nowitzki added 16 and nine rebounds for the Mavericks, who stuck with their starters in the fourth quarter when the Cavs rested LeBron James and Kyrie Irving. Kevin Love didn’t play in Cleveland’s third exhibition in four nights.

Irving returned to the lineup after missing three games with a sprained right ankle and led Cleveland with 23 points. Tristan Thompson had 17 and James 12 before sitting out the fourth.

Seahawks trade Harvin

FLORHAM PARK, N.J.

The New York Jets have acquired wide receiver Percy Harvin from the Seattle Seahawks.

The 26-year-old Harvin has played in 60 games with only 47 career starts since being a first-round pick (22nd overall) by Minnesota in 2009. He was traded to the Seahawks in 2013, appearing in just one regular-season game because of hip surgery. New York gave up a conditional draft pick.
