Lutheran-Catholic Covenant Celebration set for Oct. 26

The Roman Catholic Diocese of Youngstown and Northeastern Ohio Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America announce the Lutheran-Catholic Covenant Celebration from 2 to 6:30 p.m. Oct. 26 at University Parish Newman Center, Kent State University, with Trinity Lutheran Church in Kent.
Bishop George V. Murry will preside at evening prayer at 5:45 p.m. with Bishop Abraham Allende of the synod as the homilist.
This event celebrates the Lutheran-Catholic Covenant signed in October 2000 by Bishop Thomas J. Tobin and Bishop Marcus Miller.
The Rev. Dr. Walter F. Taylor of Trinity Lutheran Seminary in Columbus, and the Rev. Dr. Reverend Gerald J. Bednar of St. Mary Seminary and Graduate School of Theology in Cleveland will each offer reflections on the theology of the cross.
There will be discussions, questions and answers and an optional supper prepaid with registration.
Proceeds from a free-will offering during worship assists “Lord’s Lunches,” a meal ministry for the homeless and needy hosted by Trinity Lutheran Church and supported by University parish Newman Center.
